![]() When using a laptop you don’t have much choice as it isn’t really a beside the keyboard device like the Loupedeck CT or Tourbox can be. You could bring the Speed Editor front and center during early edit assembly and be good to go. While you could place the keyboard above the Speed Editor my attempts at this had me quickly switching back. That looks to me like the Speed Editor could supplant the keyboard for editing. ![]() One early question to get out of the way is where do you place the Speed Editor for optimum usefulness? One of the Resolve splash screen images suggests this: Small and wireless (thanks to Bluetooth) the Speed Editor will fit easily onto most desks. You can go activation key or you can go dongle. You can even get a copy of Resolve Studio when you purchase one. At $295 it really is an easy purchase if you’re doing a lot of editing in Resolve, though you will have to actually use the Cut page to get the most out of it. Like the Resolve Editors Keyboard, it’s well constructed and fun to use. It quite literally chops out the middle keyboard section of the Resolve Editors Keyboard, adds mulitcam edit keys as well as some new options to the middle, and grafts on some additional functions to a number of the other keys. Review: DaVinci Resolve Speed EditorĪt its core, the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor is a cutdown version of the Resolve Editors Keyboard that I reviewed in October 2019. Part 2, Multicam and Multi-camera Editing is online. Since a large part of the Speed Editor’s functionality (and overall surface area) is dedicted to multicam, and becuase this review was getting long, I’ve saved the mulitcam editing for Part 2. Part 1 covers most all aspects of the Speed Editor except for the multicamera editing functionality. You will not find another review of the Speed Editor as in-depth as this one out there on the internet. Feel free to post questions and comments and I will try to answer them. Not every feature in given product will be covered and since these tools are used in real world editing workflows some things don’t fit in a particular review period. These reviews are not meant to be short, quickly posted feature summaries but rather an in-depth discussion of what they can and can’t do, how they might fit into professional workflows and what they often get right and wrong. In the last few years, there have been quite a few to come along and I have reviewed many here on the Editblog. Hardware products designed to supplement and speed up video editing used to be quite rare. The built-in Search Dial is similar to the jog wheel often found on professional edit decks, but in conjunction with the push-button keys and DaVinci Resolve software, the search dial is much more powerful.Welcome to my review of the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor. Additionally, these push buttons provide shortcuts to useful features available only on the Speed Editor. The Speed Editor features dedicated push buttons that control the edit modes, timeline navigation, and effects of DaVinci Resolve. The Speed Editor can also connect to your computer via an included USB Type-C cable in case if you want to work hardwired, and the USB Type-C cable also charges the keyboard. The Speed Editor is small enough to take with you on location, and its built-in battery allows you to use it via Bluetooth for a wire-free connection. It interfaces with macOS or Windows editing systems running DaVinci Resolve, providing you with keyboard shortcuts and controls that speed up your editing, compared to using a mouse to navigate your edit system. The Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor is a perfect complement for the editor on the go. The documentation provided with your order may be for version 16 because the new version 17 was just recently released, but your download with still provide you with the new DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio. It can be upgraded for free when the final version is released. Your download will provide you with the new DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio beta version, which is ready to fully be used.
